What is Your name?
In the Ashanti regions, a name is symbolic. One is named according to what day of the week they were born and their gender.
Let's Dance!!!
Can you dance like a Ghanaian? Can you flex both arms repeatedly and cross your arms over your chest signaling your possession over the land like an Ashanti dancing the traditional Adowa dance? can you twist one leg while moving your upper body at the same time like the boys in Tema dancing the azonto? Or can you Al Qaeda like the teenagers in Accra? Don't worry, with practice, you will understand. Dancing plays a very big role in our culture in Ghana. Not only do we dance to have fun, but dance moves in Ghanaian dances are used as a way of communication.During Adowa, a man can put his hand over his finger, slyly asking his lady dance partner if she is married.
Life is happier with jollof...
Have you heard the saying, "The way to a man's heart it through his stomach?" Well, every Ghanaian, born and raised in Ghana knows that this saying holds true for Ghanaian men. One dish that all Ghanaians love is jollof rice. One has not lived unless they have had some jollof rice in their system.
Jollof, of course, is not the only dish in Ghana. If you ever take a trip to visit Ghana, I recommend that you try everything. Some foods may not look very appetizing, but trust me, you will be proven wrong. Some of the other dishes that we Ghanaians enjoy are Banku with okra soup, rice balls with peanut butter soup, Wache, fufu with any choice of soup, and koko (red red) with beans.

My Favorite Place In the World Is Ghana:
There is only one place on earth where you can receive the best hospitality, the tastiest exotic foods, and learn dances that have names such as the "Al Qaeda." Ghana is simply the most unique country on this planet. The Ashanti people of Ghana use one of the simplest naming systems. The names of children go by their gender and their day of birth. For example, I am a female born on a Friday, so my name is Afia or Afua, depending on where in the Ashanti regions I am from and who is spelling the name. Ghana is a country full of many languages. There are over 50 languages that are spoken, but the most common language is twi. Almost every Ghanaian knows how to communicate in twi. It is the best language to get familiar with, should you ever want to visit Ghana. As far as our history goes, our most influential person in our history is Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He led the movement to Ghana's Independence, changing the country's name from Gold Coast to Ghana, which was the original name of the country before it was colonized by the English, who then found out about the massive amount of gold in the country. The site for the beginning of the slave trade is also found in Ghana. When you go to Cape coast, there is a ship there and you can go inside and see how the slaves were stored and the different components of the ship. It is a very educational and emotional experience.
